Titanic

What was the titanic?
The Titanic was  the largest passanger ship in the world when it was built in 1912 in Bealfast, Nothern Ireland. It was like a floating town with passangers from all social classes.
The tragedy:
On  14 April,   the Titanic was in the North Atlantic. The sea was calm but visibility was low. At 11.40 pm, a lookowt saw a large iceberg near the ship. 37 seconds later, the Titanic hit the iceberg and the water entered the ship. At first the passangers didn't panic... two hours and 40 minutes later, at 2.20 am, the Titanic sank.
Who died?
Of the 2224 people on board, only 710 survived: there were not enough lifeboats. Most survivors were women, children and the rich: 60% of first-class passangers survived. But only 42% of second-class and less than 25% of third-class passangers survived.

A ghost town in the USA

Going back in time
Today, when you visit Bodie, you go back in time. The streets are abandoned, and the inside of the houses look exactly as they did 60 years ago. It's difficult to imagine tah Bodie was a rich town with a population of 10,000 people.
Beginning of the end
Miners began to leave Bodie in 1880, and it became a family-friendly community. By the end of the 1940s, Bodie was a ghosst town. The houses were left just as they were. After 60 years, they are now very dusty!
Dangerous town
In the 1870s, Bodie had 65 saloons and dance halls. There was more gambling, drinking and shooting tan in any other mining town. There was also a murder almost every day in Bodie!
Gold, gold, gold
Bodie had many gold mines and the town boomed frem 1877 to 1880. The mines produced gold with a value of 34 million dollars.
